Improving the capacity to prevent direct and indirect risks linked to forest fires
Descripción
The EUBURN-RISK project seeks to strengthen the capacity to prevent and manage the risks associated with forest fires occurring in Southwestern Europe (SUDOE) and thus protect vulnerable agents (population, ecosystems, and territorial assets). EUBURN-RISK aims to develop a digital tool to better anticipate both direct and indirect risks. The project intends to strengthen the capacity of public operators to consider environmental impacts after developing public policies on land use and facilitate civil protection by providing key information in real time. Initially, the project proposes to acquire the necessary data to improve scientific knowledge on forest fires through a measurement campaign in the SUDOE territory. Subsequently, it will aim to develop and evaluate, in real cases, a digital tool to simulate the propagation of forest fires and the concentrations of emitted atmospheric pollutants. EUBURN-RISK is based on a transnational cooperation strategy among researchers, public operators, and operational firefighting services, to create a solid structure for the benefit of all parties. Through a global and innovative approach, the project seeks to invigorate the potential of the SUDOE territory in terms of knowledge and modeling of forest fire propagation and emitted compounds, grouping different interfaces (fire, ecosystem, atmosphere) and spatial scales previously studied independently.
