ThermEcoWat in the spotlight at the Budapest International Thermal Tourism Congress

The International Thermal Tourism Congress, held in Budapest from 4 to 6 June 2025, highlighted the ThermEcoWat project, which focuses on thermal ecosystems and the fight against climate change in the Auvergne, Massif Central and Sudoe regions. In front of more than 30 speakers from 22 countries, Marion Roussel, the project coordinator, presented this innovative project, illustrating how thermal mineral waters can become a lever for sustainable territorial development, thanks to European cooperation and collective learning.

A European commitment to thermal heritage

The Mayor’s Summit, held at the emblematic Széchenyi baths, brought together the mayors of Europe’s historic spa towns. The signing of the Budapest Declaration 2025 by the representatives of the European Historic Thermal Towns Association (EHTTA) marks a strong commitment to the protection of thermal heritage, the involvement of local communities and the promotion of thermal tourism as a public good.

EHTTA recognised by UN Tourism for its leadership

During the event, EHTTA received a certificate of recognition from UN Tourism for its leadership in promoting spa tourism, particularly through the organisation of three consecutive congresses. This international support confirms the strategic importance of the spa sector for sustainable development and heritage preservation in Europe.
