The Polytechnic Institute of Guarda hosted the first General Assembly of the RePo-SUDOE project

On December 17th, 2024, the Polytechnic Institute of Guarda, in Portugal, hosted the first General Assembly of the RePo-SUDOE project, a key event for advancing drug repurposing research within the SUDOE region. The event brought together project beneficiaries who shared their achievements and mapped out the next steps for this biopharmaceutical initiative.

The Assembly began with a welcome session led by the Vicepresident of the Polytechnic Institute of Guarda and the Coordinator of the RePo-SUDOE project, who emphasized the importance of the event in strengthening collaboration among professionals and i nstitutions in the region.

In the morning, progress from Work Group 1 was presented, with contributions from experts such as Hugo Filipe, Rebeca García, Ángel Piñeiro, and Jean-Philippe Borges. The session allowed for an evaluation of ongoing activities and discussions on the project’s technical challenges.

After a brief break, participants continued with the review of preparatory activities from Work Groups 2 and 3. Carlos Fernández, João Joaquim, Eva Menino, Ángel Piñeiro and Rebeca García presented advancements in their respective areas and opened a debate to optimize future planning.

In the afternoon, a session was dedicated to communication and administrative activities. Lorena Iglesias, head of communication, shared progress in project dissemination, while Cristina Castro addressed administrative and financial aspects essential for the initiative’s success. The day concluded with an operational session focused on coordinating upcoming deadlines and key activities.

Driving innovation in drug repurposing

The RePo-SUDOE Project’s General Assembly was a success, consolidating research and collaboration efforts across various work groups. This initiative aims to enhance the repurposing of existing medicines through innovative technologies, accelerating biopharmaceutical innovation and boosting the competitiveness of the SUDOE region.

The event, which served as a platform for idea exchange and progress evaluation, demonstrated the participants’ commitment to advancing scientific and technological development for the benefit of society.
